"Lottery Tickets from Hell"

Film: Curse of the Demon (1957)

Alias: None

Type: Mystical

Location: Forest

Height/Weight: About as big and tall as a small house.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: The devil cult is the worst cult of them all. No contest. All they ever do is give themselves power at the cost of everyone else's souls. They can't even benefit their own members. Everyone is a target for the continued pleasure of the dark forces down below.

History: On the surface, Dr. Julian Karswell seemed like an ordinary gentleman. One who greatly loved his family and the pursuit of greater knowledge. But beneath his affable exterior was a fear-monger, a nefarious devil-worshiper who received great power and benefits to his ageing mother for his work in the name of the dark forces. Every once in a while, he would provide one of his cult members with a special parchment that marked them as victims of a powerful arch-demon that would find and kill them in less than a week. However, he would also give one to any who wronged him, of which there were many.

Notable Kills: See Final Fate.

Final Fate: An American psychiatrist manages to out-gambit Karswell by sneaking his parchment into the doctor's coat. After the parchment blows away and burns up, the demon arrives right on schedule to eviscerate the evil doctor with its talons, ending the cycle once and for all.

Powers/Abilities: The demon can turn invisible to the naked eye and travel at great speeds in its spectral form.

Weakness: None, though it only kills those with a parchment.

Scariness Factor: 4.5-An unstoppable monster that hunts down cursed folk without them knowing it? Oh HELL no! It doesn't help that the demon looks terrifying for the rather low standards of the 50s, especially when no one can see it as it haunts its prey.

Trivia: -The physical form of the demon was one of many subjects of the feuds between producer Hal E. Chester (show the beast) and director Jacques Tourneur (don't show it).

-Countless songs have referenced this film in one way or another.

And lo, the beast rose from the sea to wreak terror.

Purple doesn't look good with this demon.

Not a Giallo film, really.
